This collection of studies investigates the multifaceted relationship between myth, music, and theatre within contemporary rewriting, published in commemoration of the composer Michele Lizzi (Agrigento, 1915 – Messina, 1972). From the inception of his creative career, Lizzi sought an aesthetic renewal of the melodrama, striving to cultivate a style defined by an absolute equilibrium between word and music. Arising from a profound synthesis of the Italian musical tradition and a conscious rejection of Late-Romantic and Verist musical theatre, his dramaturgical vision achieved its pinnacle in the operas Pantea and L’amore di Galatea. Through these works, the composer intended to contribute to the revitalisation of musical theatre, projecting it towards a necessary progression. The defining characteristic of Lizzi’s oeuvre is the reimagining of myth and the musical evocation of Ancient Greek atmospheres and landscapes, underpinned by a rigorous pursuit of the sonic suggestions of a mythical past.

Abstract
The defining characteristic of Lizzi’s oeuvre is the reimagining of myth and the musical evocation of Ancient Greek atmospheres and landscapes, underpinned by a rigorous pursuit of the sonic suggestions of a mythical past.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
