This volume investigates the profound and bidirectional interaction between performative activities—music, sound, and dance—and the architectural structures of the ancient world. Moving beyond the traditional view of architecture as a passive container, the research establishes built space as an active agent that shaped acoustics, visibility, and sensory perception. By integrating archaeology, archaeomusicology, philology, and digital methodologies, the contributions explore how performative requirements stimulated the design and adaptation of diverse spaces, including sanctuaries, cultic theatres, and banqueting halls. Through the concepts of soundscape and dancescape, the volume offers a systematic analysis of the dynamic symbiosis between built environments and ephemeral events, providing a more complete and embodied understanding of ancient cultural, civic, and religious life.
