Il fascino indiscreto degli Squallor: attualità, dimensioni di senso e trash nella Twittersfera

The contribution analyzes the presence of the musical group Squallor on Twitter/X over the past two years. By employing computational techniques and following the strand of so-called digital methods, the network of online interactions among users (approximately 5,000) who have used the term "Squallor" in their posts ("Twittersphere") is reconstructed. The study identifies the most frequent words and hashtags associated with this term, the topics of discussion, and the overall sentiment of all tweets (about 4,500). The aim of the study is, first and foremost, to describe the social media imagery associated with the name Squallor, thirty years after their last album, its collective significance, and how this imagery serves as a memory and resource for the interpretation of the present, especially with respect to Italian politics. In this regard, the concept of meta-trash is employed: the use of trash to express-do-indicate-signify another expression of trash.

Il contributo analizza la presenza su Twitter/X del gruppo musicale degli Squallor, negli ultimi due anni. Facendo ricorso ad alcune tecniche computazionali e seguendo il filone dei cosiddetti digital methods, viene ricostruita la rete delle interazioni online tra gli utenti (circa 5.000) che hanno utilizzato il termine “Squallor” nei loro post (“Twittersfera”), vengono individuate le parole e gli hashtag più frequenti associati con questo termine, gli argomenti (topic) di discussione e il sentiment complessivo di tutti i tweet (circa 4.500). L’obiettivo dello studio è, anzitutto, quello di descrivere l’immaginario social legato al nome degli Squallor, a trent’anni dall’ultimo album, la sua valenza collettiva, e come tale immaginario funga da memoria e risorsa per l’interpretazione del presente, soprattutto con riferimento alla politica italiana. Viene, a tal proposito, impiegato il concetto di meta-trash: l’uso del trash per dire-fare-indicare-significare altre espressioni del trash.
