Migration has significant implications for Mediterranean societies and economies and requires careful consideration and thoughtful dialogue to understand the opportunities and challenges it presents. Significant shifts in Mediterranean migration patterns driven by wars, climate change and economic inequality have put additional pressure on policy-makers and communities to find effective and sustainable solutions. Since migration is often a politically contentious issue and public debates can easily become polarized or divisive, it is by engaging in constructive debates about migration that we can facilitate greater understanding. The present volume sheds light on current topics that impact policy-making and the well-being and integration of migrants in the Mediterranean by addressing the following issues: migration flows in Africa, cross-border diasporic philanthropy, the need for a more democratized globalization, educational reform and religious values in primary schools, best practice models for social services in the area of migration, preventing radicalization through innovative arts-based methods, the role of staff in reception centres for refugees and, lastly, language-related services to safeguard all members of the community and promote integration.
