Storia, retorica, ideologia. Ricerche sul mondo antico

This volume brings together a number of contributions, almost all signed by PhD students and post-doctoral scholars, with the aim of reflecting on the formative project of the PhD in Classical Studies for Contemporaneity at the University of Palermo. In the conviction that investigating the complexity and plurality of the ancient world contributes to the construction of a more inclusive and democratic society, these texts attempt to shed light on the tension between continuity and discontinuity of historical-social, political, anthropological and linguistic-textual structures from the distant past up to us. Grasping the interconnections between language and power, between rhetorical art and political pragmatics, examining the way cultural expressions reflect and shape the ideologies of their time, constitutes, moreover, an opportunity for reflection that can be revived even beyond the borders of the ancient world.
