In the essays in this volume, the margins of writing expand to include the stages of the gestation and elaboration of the work, the cross-references between the variants of the different editions, the images that prepared and guided the text, those that complement it and those that consciously denied or involuntarily removed. The volume analyzes, from an intermedial and inter-artistic perspective, the works of J. W. Goethe, Joel Meyerowitz, Dino Buzzati, Bruno Munari, Wim Wenders, and Judith Schalansky, authors who interweave cartography and architecture, typography and illustration, cinema and photography in their works.

Nei saggi del presente volume i margini della scrittura si dilatano fino a comprendere le fasi della gestazione e della elaborazione dell’opera, i rimandi tra le varianti delle diverse edizioni, le immagini che hanno preparato e guidato il testo, quelle che lo integrano e quelle consapevolmente negate o involontariamente rimosse. Il volume analizza, in un’ottica intermediale e interartistica, le opere di J. W. Goethe, Joel Meyerowitz, Dino Buzzati, Bruno Munari, Wim Wenders, Judith Schalansky, autori che nelle loro opere intrecciano cartografia e architettura, tipografia e illustrazione, cinema e fotografia.
