“The one is said in many ways.” Thus begins in medias res the brief treatise On one and on unity in which al-Fārābī, on the model of Aristotle in Metaphysics Delta 6 and Iota 1 and 6, presents a linguistic examination of the polysemy of the terms 'one' and 'multiple' . The reflection he presents is crucial for understanding not only the logical thinking of the philosopher, but also his metaphysical reflection. According to al-Fārābī, in fact, the prime subject of metaphysics, understood as a universal science, is what is common to all entities: being and the one and their opposites, non-being and multiplicity. Unity and being are coextensive, maximally universal, and dangerously equivocal. In the volume this difficult and unjustly forgotten treatise by al-Fārābī is critically reviewed, translated and commented.
“L’uno è detto in molti modi”.

Abstract
In the volume this difficult and unjustly forgotten treatise by al-Fārābī is critically reviewed, translated and commented.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
