This book dedicated to the ancient silk and gold fabrics of the church of Acireale in Sicily, is a text prepared by Fabio Francesco Grippaldi and Maurizio Vitella within the European project H2020 Silknow: Weaving our past into the future (European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 769504). It presents a large collection of textile artefacts, largely unpublished, in use in the basilicas of Acireale. The sacred vestments analyzed both in the introductory essays and in the analytical sheets are contextualized in the broad panorama of reference, both national and European, and cover a chronological span that extends from the sixteenth to the twentieth century
