The volume, which demonstrates the uniqueness of precious Sicilian artifacts from past centuries, focuses, for the first time, the analysis on sacred works of art which, forged in gold, silver and copper and enriched with coral, used with strong symbolic value, from polychrome enamels and semi-precious stones, are kept in the various and rich churches of Gangi (Pa), the center of the high Madonie. The liturgical furnishings were made by Sicilian and non-Sicilian craftsmen, from the end of the fourteenth century, when works of Tuscan and Ligurian origin circulated on the island, to the beginning of the nineteenth century, a century characterized by the advent of the rigorous and sober neoclassical style. Commissioned by clergymen, nobles and jurors, who emulated each other, sometimes with the support of the faithful, the works, like the figurative arts, were created on precise indications from theologians and on a probable design by architects with an illustrious name , such as Gandolfo Felice Bongiorno. Several artifacts are still used today during Eucharistic celebrations, some of which, in fact, although exhibited in the rooms annexed to the Mother Church, are used for solemn religious functions. The volume therefore reconstructs the production of the authors in relation to the precious works of which it speaks.

Abstract
The volume therefore reconstructs the production of the authors in relation to the precious works of which it speaks.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
