Il quartiere San Berillo a Catania. Appunti per una rinascita

In analyzing the development of the city of Catania over the centuries, and in particular after the Second World War, we come across the microcosm of San Berillo, with its history made up of failed projects, erroneous planning and good intentions never realized. Still open is the wound due to the well-known demolition of the neighborhood carried out at the end of the 1950s, generating an urban void that has only been partially filled, since in reality it is also a social and cultural void. The volume takes the same positive and proactive direction as all those actions that have made the image of San Berillo public and fascinating: from short films to web series, from music videos to traveling theatre, from the talent of a young illustrator to that of the protagonists of street art. The volume is enriched by the personal emotions of those who experience the neighborhood every day in various forms.

Nell’analizzare lo sviluppo della città di Catania nei secoli, e in particolare nel secondo dopoguerra, ci si imbatte nel microcosmo di San Berillo, con la sua storia fatta di progetti mancati, pianificazioni errate e buoni propositi mai realizzati. Ancora aperta è la ferita dovuta al noto sventramento del quartiere condotto alla fine degli anni Cinquanta del secolo scorso, generatore di un vuoto urbano che solo in parte è stato colmato, trattandosi in realtà anche di un vuoto sociale e culturale. Il volume si pone nella stessa direzione positiva e propositiva di tutte quelle azioni che hanno reso pubblica e affascinante l’immagine di San Berillo: dai cortometraggi alle Web serie, dai video musicali al teatro itinerante, dal talento di una giovane illustratrice a quello dei protagonisti della street art. Il volume è arricchito dalle emozioni personali di chi il quartiere lo vive quotidianamente in varie forme.
