Gianni Braghieri is an architect artist as much as a builder. He believes that architecture is not a random phenomenon, ephemeral, contingent and changing, just as he knows that is not something that depends only on individual thinking. The architecture reveals and confirms itself over time in a sort of collective will, expressed through theoretical and operative categories of a permanent nature. Categories gathered around the axis of the problematic relationship between typology and morphology. At a glance Gianni Braghieri believes that architecture has its own autonomy, a capacity to determine itself along the time within a strict knowledge of its instruments and objectives. Autonomy, not self-sufficiency, must be clear, in the sense that architecture, creating spaces, volumes, materials and atmospheres within that infinite text constituited by the existing, proposes itself as a general theory and as interpretative practice continually rewriting the landscape, the city and the buildings in continuity trough different scopes of physical world. Leading the Tendenza, such as Aldo Rossi, with whom he shared many years of work and many projects, the founder of the School of Architecture in Cesena believes that the essence of architecture should be found in the perfect correspondence between idea and form, a synthesis that can see the rationality merging with the specific and unique identity of each place. Away from the doctrinal stermness of some experiments within the Tendenza, Gianni Braghieri knows how to decline, with an authentic poetic feeling, evident and secret joints of a personal language, less biographical and visual than Rossi. A structural and tectonic language in which the strictness joins the emotion in a finalistic consequentiality of architectural writing that compares its absoluteness with an opposite attitude to intercept the mysterious level of symbol and metaphor. The linear time of mind is transformed into a circular time continuing going back on itself, drawing on themes deeper and deeper at every turn. Gianni Braghieri is at the center of these two temporalities, which governs with inspired wisdom. Its sign is made of metric paths of strong musicality; of accurate convergences of materials, that go straight from rough to smooth; made of bright cavities, sometimes more dark ones, designed to receive and remember the stories of those who live them.
