PAESAGGI AGRICOLI TRADIZIONALI E CAMBIAMENTI CLIMATICI: INSEGNAMENTI DALL’ISOLA DI PANTELLERIA

Landscape of Pantelleria is determined from the geographic and environmental factors but also from the modifications brought from the farmers in the centuries. The elements of this peculiar landscape (“Dammusi”, “Giardini”) are built to preserve the water. Also the agronomic techniques (choice of the species, forms of breeding, …) are finalized to allow the cultivation in an area where the rainfall is reduced and the wind blows regularly. In the future the increase of the temperature and the reduction of the rain they will be able to have have effects on this ancient equilibrium.

Il paesaggio di Pantelleria è fortemente determinato dai fattori geografici e ambientali ma anche dalle modifiche apportate dagli agricoltori per rendere coltivabile l’isola. Gli elementi peculiari di questo paesaggio agrario sono il frutto della necessità di tesaurizzare l’acqua. Anche le tecniche agronomiche (scelta delle specie, forme di allevamento, …) sono finalizzate a consentire la coltivazione in un’area dove la piovosità è ridotta e la ventosità costante. Un aumento della temperatura avrebbe probabilmente effetti pesanti su questo antico ma precario equilibrio.
