Some places in the world possess a specific luxuriance, a sort of privilege. They enshroud unexpected cracks, interstices, hidden openings which are concealed behind episodes of admitted beauty, precious thresholds leading to metaphysical and metahistorical meanings of the form. Thus, the desert in Jordan is a metaphor for that crossing which can make us distinguish the most radical aesthetic conditions of living. Cities, slowly germinated and scattered in the desert, are bulwarks of melancholic hope, pointing out at the supremacy of artifice on the natural destiny of places. The architectures, above all those in the archaeological structures of Petra and Jerash, still allow to carry on a debate on the border between time and space, for they are archetypes of an immutable form which includes and emanates eternal values which can still guide the discourse on the transformation of places.

Alcuni luoghi possiedono una ricchezza specifica, una sorta di privilegio. Contengono, infatti, fessure impreviste, varchi nascosti che si celano dentro episodi di riconosciuta bellezza, preziose soglie d’accesso ai significati metafisici e metastorici della forma. Così il deserto di Giordania è metafora dell’attraversamento che può farci distinguere le condizioni estetiche più radicali dell’abitare. Le città, disperse e lentamente germogliate nel deserto, sono baluardi di malinconica speranza posti a rimarcare la supremazia dell’artificio sul destino naturale dei luoghi. Le architetture, soprattutto quelle inscritte nelle strutture archeologiche di Petra e di Jerash, permettono ancora oggi un discorso sul confine tra il tempo e lo spazio, poiché archetipi di una forma immutabile che include e sprigiona valori eterni ai quali è possibile orientare ancora il pensiero sulla trasformazione dei luoghi.
