(Paper 127). This paper reports on field investigations on source loadings carried out in a Sicilian basin in order to analyse its water quality, to determine the main causes of the river degradation and to assess the effects of different possible decision-making pathways. First, a large amount of data and information upon the land use in the catchment area were collected in order to identify point and non-point sources of pollution. In this way pollutant loads have been indirectly evaluated using the specific contribution coefficients. Pollutant loads have been also evaluated directly using results of field investigations, as the product of the values of the monthly discharges by the field data of daily concentrations, both measured in 15 monitoring stations set along the river.
