In a globalized economy the theme of quality represents one of the benchmarks on which the development and competitiveness of every human activity is based. This article re-traces several of the stages that have brought Man from handicraft processes to quality-control methods founded on science and technology; it then examines the evolution of the building sector, highlighting the different path that it has followed when compared to the industrial sector.
