The quality of life in urban areas: mobility and social exclusion.

The social exclusion is described as the process that progressively marginalizes individuals, groups and communities from the labor market and from the access to basic services for health, education and transport. The ability to access to (in a spatial sense of the term) the job, the education, the health services and other services is a key factor of social inclusion. Accessibility is important, not only because facilitates the achievement of a regular job, stable and profitable, but also because it is part of the social capital, the latter ensures the social relationships that form a safety margin of the poor people. Accessibility is increasingly recognized as a key element of a sustainable, effective and efficient transport system. For many people, due to physical and economic reasons and/or even structural urban patterns, the movements in the area or in areas at greater distance can be difficult. The aim of this study is the identification and removal of barriers to mobility and access of public transport services. Until when these barriers will be not removed, a significant proportion of the population will continue to live in disadvantaged situations, unable to move as they would like and, therefore, limited in their opportunities to participate to the social life. The public transport plays the crucial role in order to support policies of social inclusion, providing a mobility services for all citizens.
