Abstract

The space has been designed as a metaphor of nature: the ground has tourned to water, the roof remains the starry sky and the partitions develop as white clouds. The hearth of the clinic is a covered “square” that connects the entrance with a huge glass wall that looks directly towards the city. Here, a small waterfall diffuses its sound throughout the architectural spaces. The design is meant to generate organic forms through the use of simple, cheap and hand-made technologies taht work as instruments. Small modular elements are assembled in order to create complex compositions. The materials have been chosen to realize a contemporary interpretation of the millenarian tradition of bamboo building. The bamboo – with its vibrant surface and its expressive relationship that appears when in touch with natural light – is used through new forms and colours. The facade has been realized combining bamboo posts and vertical backlit U-glass elements. The space is naturally air-conditioned, similarly to what happened in the ancient pre-Colombian buildings. The interstices between the elements allow the fresh air to freely circulate throughout the consulting rooms, which skin is light and gentle because structurally has been suspended from the ground.
