There are many ways to approach the theme of landscape. Franco Zagari has identified 48 +1 (his own), by asking for the opinions of architects, artists, etc. As Andres Kipar says, we are the landscape. We belong to the landscape: we are its actors and so we modify it every day. We are also its spectators, and thus we perceive each landscape in a different way (see Eugenio Turri). For many people, (architects included), the actual understanding of the landscape is abstract, it is not clear how we should act, nor the tools we should use to improve, recover or create a landscape. Our belief, shaped by the analysis of the case studies presented here, is that we need a radical cultural change in society and an evolution in the education of architects and, therefore, in the schools of architecture. You cannot say that this change has not been made, but the few cases that are testimony to this change have not been correctly highlighted or communicated. The perception of change, a key factor in the media era, is missing, with the result that magazines almost always present only the formal aspects of a design and not the substantial aspects. Before talking about these case studies I would like to recount my experiences on a short trip I made in Switzerland to visit two works of architecture which, although very different, are certainly significant in the cultural change which is taking place in society and in the discipline of architecture and the project.

Eugenio Turri, Il paesaggio come teatro).
