Il diavolo, il turco, il giudeo. Rappresentazioni dell’«altro» nella cultura tradizionale siciliana

Today perhaps more than yesterday, the frantic search for identity is driving towards the creation "of an absolute otherness that looms like an enemy threatening "(al-T. Labīb 2006: 29). And this demand for identity collective engages in recovery, construction, sometimes in the invention of shared memories, in the construction and re-construction of a hypothetical commonly lived past that is based on events, real or imaginary (and therefore no less "real") considered crucial (Lewis 2000: 27). The turcu niuru, or more simply u turcu, is a figure archetypal mythical-ritual imagery, condensed "of every prejudice anti-Arab and anti-Islamic ”(Said 2001: 35) was and remains, in spite of it of every historical change, of every reconsideration and redefinition of the role of Western culture, white and Christian, a subject "Content and represented by a system of pre-existing categories" (Said 2001: 46) who propose him as a foreigner not only to the community but also and above all to humanity (Fabietti 1994: 173), therefore an enemy, indeed the enemy.

Oggi forse più di ieri, la ricerca affannosa dell’identità sospinge verso la creazione «di un’alterità assoluta che incombe come un nemico minaccioso» (al-T. Labīb 2006: 29). E questa richiesta di identità collettiva si cimenta nel recupero, nella costruzione, talora nell’invenzione di memorie condivise, nella costruzione e ri-costruzione di un ipotetico passato comunemente vissuto che si fonda su eventi, reali o immaginari (e per questo non meno “veri”) considerati cruciali (Lewis 2000: 27). Il turcu niuru, o più semplicemente u turcu, figura archetipica dell’immaginario mitico-rituale, condensato «di ogni pregiudizio antiarabo e anti islamico» (Said 2001: 35) era e resta, a dispetto di ogni mutamento storico, di ogni riconsiderazione e ridefinizione del ruolo della cultura Occidentale, bianca e cristiana, un soggetto «contenuto e rappresentato da un sistema di categorie preesistenti» (Said 2001: 46) che lo propongono come straniero non solo alla comunità ma anche e soprattutto all’umanità (Fabietti 1994: 173), dunque un nemico, anzi il nemico.
