The extensive ecclesiastical powers of the King of Sicily were exercised in the judicial sphere through the Court of the Royal Monarchy. The foundations of these prerogatives were questioned in a sometimes widely conflicted way by the Holy See, while these were indicated by the "royalists" as real attributes of sovereignty. In the seventeenth century, in which the Court already had an established structure, much of its activity was dedicated to disputes of not high importance, usually undertaken to escape the much stricter ecclesiastical jurisdiction, exploiting the wide possibility of calling. With regard to the city of Palermo, the essay shows some types of disputes in which the Court was called into question.
