Le ceramiche attiche a figure nere dallo scarico di Grotta Vanella a Segesta: primi dati da una revisione

This article examine the fragments of Attic black-figured vases from the so-called Grotta Vanella deposit at Segesta, which consists of materials dumped from the summit of Mount Barbaro, the North Acropolis. The forms are indicated, the figurative themes and functions of the vessels are examined, and the distribution of certain types and classes of vases in different chronological phases. In absence of stratigraphic data, the datings were established on the basis of the attribution of the fragments to workshops or groups of painters known, and, when possible, by comparison with finds from archaeological contexts rather dated. As to the figurative themes, although the fragmentary material has limited the reading, they showed the recurrence of some iconographic subjects, interpreted in the light of the Segestan context. These fine vessels, as all imported pottery came from the discharge together with local products, provided useful information on cultural and commercial relations between Segesta and the Greek world, particularly with neighboring colonial poleis of the western Sicily. The research provides new data on the presumed sacred context of origin of the ceramics (these data will be put together with those offered by other findings of the discharge currently under study), and helps to define the methods of acquisition and reception of this kind of objects in the Elymian Sicily.

Questo articolo esamina i frammenti di vasi attici a figure nere della cosiddetta Grotta Vanella deposito a Segesta, costituito da materiali scaricati dalla cima del Monte Barbaro, a nord Acropoli. Vengono indicate le forme, vengono esaminati i temi e le funzioni figurative delle navi e la distribuzione di alcuni tipi e classi di vasi in diverse fasi cronologiche. In assenza di dati stratigrafici, i dating sono stati stabiliti sulla base dell'attribuzione dei frammenti ai workshop o gruppi di pittori noti e, quando possibile, confrontati con reperti provenienti da contesti archeologici piuttosto datato. Per quanto riguarda i temi figurativi, sebbene il materiale frammentario abbia limitato la lettura, essi ha mostrato la ricorrenza di alcuni soggetti iconografici, interpretati alla luce del contesto segestano. Queste belle navi, come tutte le ceramiche importate provenivano dallo scarico insieme ai prodotti locali, forniti informazioni utili sulle relazioni culturali e commerciali tra Segesta e il mondo greco, in particolare con la vicina poleis coloniale della Sicilia occidentale. La ricerca fornisce nuovi dati sul presunto sacro contesto di origine della ceramica (questi dati saranno messi insieme a quelli offerti da altri reperti della dimissione attualmente in fase di studio) e aiuta a definire i metodi di acquisizione e ricezione di questo tipo di oggetti nella Sicilia elimiana.
