THE MEDITERRANEAN AS A PLACE OF WELCOME. THE EXPERIENCE OF LAMPEDUSA

The written describes the research and teaching experience of the Architectural Design Laboratories of third year that had as their objective the knowledge of places of great landscape value and architecture affected by migration phenomena such as the case of Lampedusa, gateway to Europe, the main immigration corridor. The island, at the center of the Mediterranean, is today a place of migratory flows, of men on the run from war, in search of new forms of sharing. The Laboratory, in fact through the numerous educational projects intends to give an answer through architecture for the places on the island, which can allow new forms of coexistence of being in the world. “It is possible that emigration will save the West, but not in a demographic sense, but preci- sely as a renewal of the right to stay in the world without being oppressed by the religion, from reception, from communitarianism, from the geographical and family ties of those today flees from Tunisia, Eritrea, Bangladesh, Guinea and Syria looking for a future safer for themselves and their children but chasing the dream of a life less burdened by definitions constrictive of tradition and faith”.

Lo scritto descrive l'esperienza di ricerca e insegnamento dei Laboratori di progettazione architettonica del terzo anno che aveva come obiettivo la conoscenza di luoghi di grande valore paesaggistico e architettura colpiti da fenomeni migratori come il caso di Lampedusa, porta di accesso all'Europa, principale corridoio di immigrazione . L'isola, al centro del Mediterraneo, è oggi un luogo di flussi migratori, di uomini in fuga dalla guerra, alla ricerca di nuove forme di condivisione. Il Laboratorio, infatti attraverso i numerosi progetti educativi intende dare una risposta attraverso l'architettura per i luoghi dell'isola, che possono consentire nuove forme di convivenza dell'essere nel mondo. “È possibile che l'emigrazione salverà l'Occidente, ma non in senso demografico, ma proprio come rinnovo del diritto di rimanere nel mondo senza essere oppresso dal la religione, l'accoglienza, il comunitarismo, i legami geografici e familiari di coloro che oggi fuggono dalla Tunisia, dall'Eritrea, dal Bangladesh, dalla Guinea e dalla Siria in cerca di un futuro più sicuro per se stessi e i loro figli ma inseguendo il sogno di una vita meno gravata da definizioni costrittive di tradizione e fede ”.
