QUEL LABILE CONFINE TRA ARTE E DESIGN

Is design art? This question, which many ask, and to which not a few they tried to answer definitively, it is the common thread of this short book in which we try to give the reader a trace for orientation in the world of art and design, often insidious and / or difficult to understand. The need for a rethinking of the work and the roles of the artist and of the critic who adapts to a reality in transformation and at the center of the debate in the Italian intellectual environment since the beginning of the 1960s. Nodal question is that of defining an art that, so to speak, lies beyond of the dimension of artistic, in the perspective of a new opening in the comparisons of reality to dialogue with the road, with current affairs, with industry, with design, architecture and other arts; an art courted by the market, which creates its own market and is implicated in the present.

Il design è arte? Questa domanda, che molti si pongono e alla quale non pochi hanno cercato di rispondere in modo definitivo, costituisce il filo conduttore di questo breve libro nel quale si cerca di dare al lettore una traccia per orientarsi nel mondo dell’arte e del design, spesso insidioso e/o difficilmente comprensibile. La necessita di un ripensamento dell’opera e dei ruoli dell’artista e del critico che si adatti a una realtà in trasformazione e al centro del dibattito nell’ambiente intellettuale italiano fin dall’inizio degli anni ’60 del novecento. Questione nodale e quella di definire un’arte che, per cosi dire, si trova al di là della dimensione dell’artisticità, nella prospettiva di una nuova apertura nei confronti della realtà tale da dialogare con la strada, con l’attualità, con l’industria, col design, con l’architettura e le altre arti; un’arte corteggiata dal mercato, che crea un suo mercato ed e implicata nel presente.
