Sulla strada tra Palermo e Agrigento / On the road between Palermo and Agrigento

The ground connection between Palermo and Agrigento is an ancient path already existing in Roman times and well documented even in the following centuries. The road was first built in 1779 during Bourbons reign and was completed only after Italian unification. The road’s history and its transformations allow the definition of its interactions with the landscape, the human settlements spreading around the crossing route and most of all the countryside which has always been the road’s continuous companion.

Il collegamento tra Palermo e Agrigento è un percorso antico già esistente in epoca romana e documentato anche nei secoli successivi. La costruzione della rotabile ha inizio nel 1779 ad opera dei Borboni e verrà completata solo dopo l’Unificazione. La storia e le trasformazioni della strada consentono di delineare le relazioni dell’infrastruttura con il paesaggio e i centri abitati che punteggiano l‘attraversamento e, soprattutto, con la campagna di cui la strada è sempre stata compagna continua.
