Abstract

At the beginning of the twenty-first century architecture has taken an ambiguous position and thus the architectural shape of the buildings, that aspire to convey meanings. The process of radical transformation of architecture, which occurred since the early twentieth century, as consequence of the gradual replacement of traditional building techniques with the "modern" techniques, has undergone a considerable momentum in the last two decades, for effect of increasing technological change. The materials, construction techniques and technological innovation have influenced significantly and irreversibly architectural thought, producing in the last years new expressive language at all "unusual" compared to the more recent past. The keystone lies in the increasing use of information technology, which has become indispensable vehicle for the transmission of information and its processing. The consequence is a new relationship between the technological equipment and forms of the built, which laid the foundations for contemporary design research. The digitization, with its computerized systems for the design and fabrication of architecture, as well as computer and the new manufacturing technologies, has led us towards a real revolution, a revolution of the mind, as well as of the creative industries, where ideation, design and construction, but also perception, teaching and communication in architecture, incorporate in computing and interactivity, generating contemporary architecture, a new architecture enriched by designed shapes, a mirror of complex phenomena, hidden behind the sheern display of shape, function and context. The digitazing is not considerable as a mere evolution of global technology, since it is infiltrated and rooted in the cultural sphere. It has affected, and still affects, on the social life, leading to new behaviors, new ways of living and, therefore, to a new architecture.
